How to remove data in Active Directory after an unsuccessful domain controller demotion

After what appeared to be a successful demotion of BGBDC1 and 2, I disjoined the computers from the domain.  I noticed that the computer names still showed up in AD Sites and Services but did not have any NTDS containers or automatically generated replication connections.  The computer names also still showed in ADUC.  When I tried to delete the computer accounts for DC1 and 2 in ADUC they said that they still contained sub objects.  I had to manually delete the server containers from Sites and Services and then run NTDSutil per this article.  I noticed in ADSIedit that the objects it still contained was NTFRS Subscriptions, which I had to manually delete.  Also had to follow the steps to remove the DC in the list of name servers for different zones in DNS.  Then finally deleted the computer account
